Bear Claw!

The heat spell temporarily broke in the valley for a few days last week so I was finally able to get out one evening for an enjoyable walk in the woods. I have a regular route through the bush that I complete. I am constantly checking for all types of animal sign, such as tracks or paths. My walk takes me past a few trail cameras I have setup throughout the property. As I pass each camera I check to see the pictures that have been captured and it is always exciting to see the digital images. On this route the cameras are set up at both mineral sites or on deer paths. Although there may be fewer pictures on the deer runs compared to those at the baited sites, I am always interested to see evidence of what is using the trails. One never does know. As I rounded a corner towards one of my more remote game cameras I noticed something was not right. My camera was not at all in the position I had left it. I had an immediate idea as to what had happened as this was not the first time I had experienced something like this. Upon further investigation I found my camera quite beat up and it had scratches and teeth marks all over. No doubt a bear had become interested in my camera. The last picture taken with my camera is posted below, I discovered the culprit. I found this quite ironic as bear season opens in less than a week. Although I am usually quite consumed by bird and waterfowl hunting at this time of year I do usually find a few evenings to get out for a bear hunt. With this new evidence of the presence of the bear in the area I may make time sooner rather than later. For now though, a replacement camera may have to be purchased.
