A Prized Keepsake

Last year I tried my hand at creating a European mount from a buck that was harvested by my father. I was thoroughly impressed and proud of the outcome. The project itself I found very enjoyable and wished I had completed other skulls from previous years in the same manner.
I was fortunate enough to harvest my own buck this last hunting season and couldn’t wait to complete another European mount. I took on the project as soon as I could because I was anxious to see the result. Once the bitterly cold temperatures moved in and hunting seasons closed I committed my time to working on my project.
With a little more experience under my belt I was able to complete the project in a much more efficient and orderly fashion. I was also prepared with a different mounting bracket that I would use to secure the skull to its backing. This bracket allowed me to adjust the mount so that it could be positioned at different angles off of the backing board. This enhanced the 3D aspect of the mount and added a little more “wow” factor to the project.
Although I do not find this year’s mount as breath taking, I am quite pleased with the outcome. With some guidance from friends and family I decided to complete the backing board to mimic that of my original European mount which has become the hallmark for Legend Outdoors.
Completing the project was once again very enjoyable and rewarding. I look forward to more successful hunts next year with a prized deer promising yet another opportunity to complete a skull mount!
