Scavenger Hunt!

The warmer weather of April is finally here bringing with it the spring rain showers. This weather will most certainly erase the large amounts of snow that still cover the ground in the Ottawa Valley. With so much snow still on the ground, it has caused much delay in efforts to get out and participate in one of my favourite spring activities, shed hunting.
Each winter the horned whitetail deer shed their antlers, leaving them as they drop. I thoroughly enjoy getting outside each spring to walk different areas and properties where deer have wintered, in search of any antlers that I may find.
Although many outings are not successful, it most certainly makes for a great excuse to get outdoors. That being said it also makes it that much sweeter when an antler is found, or better yet a matching set is discovered.
With this week’s forecast I expect that it will soon be an appropriate time to get out and begin my 2017 shed hunting outings. As the timing will coincide with the fast approaching turkey hunt, both scouting and shed hunting will go hand in hand. I look forward to my discoveries and adventures and will most certainly be forwarding any of my finds from the field.
